About OutLoud North Bay
OutLoud North Bay is a community-based nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and fostering inclusive, welcoming communities across North Bay and surrounding Northern Ontario regions.
Through community programming, peer support, advocacy, and education, OutLoud works to reduce social isolation, improve wellbeing, and strengthen local connections.
Our work focuses on building safe spaces, empowering individuals, and supporting collaboration between community organizations, service providers, and local partners.
What you will do
OutLoud North Bay is seeking a motivated and community-minded Community Development Coordinator Intern to support the delivery and expansion of inclusive programs and community engagement initiatives.
This internship provides hands-on experience in community development, nonprofit program coordination, outreach, and partnership building. The successful candidate will work closely with the Executive Director and community partners to support programs that strengthen social inclusion and community connection in Northern Ontario.
This role is designed to help early-career professionals gain meaningful experience in the community services and nonprofit sector. The successful candidate will have opportunities to contribute ideas, develop leadership skills, and build a strong professional network within the community services sector.
This position will have several key responsibilities, as outlined below:
Community Outreach and Partnerships
● Support the development and maintenance of partnerships with local organizations, schools, healthcare providers, and community groups
● Assist with outreach initiatives that connect individuals with programs and services
● Help identify opportunities for collaboration and community engagement
● Assist with representing OutLoud North Bay at community events, networking opportunities, and stakeholder meetings
Program Coordination
● Assist in the planning, organization, and delivery of community programs, workshops, and events
● Support program logistics including scheduling, registration, and participant communication
● Help ensure programs are welcoming, inclusive, and responsive to community needs
● Support the development of program materials, resources, and participant feedback tools
Volunteer Engagement
● Support volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and coordination
● Assist in scheduling volunteers and providing guidance during events and activities
● Help maintain volunteer communication and engagement
Community Communications
● Assist with preparing communications materials such as newsletters, event announcements, and social media posts
● Help promote programs and community initiatives to increase awareness and participation
● Support the maintenance of website and digital communication content as required
Monitoring and Evaluation
● Assist with collecting participation data and maintaining program records
● Support evaluation activities that measure program outcomes and community impact
● Help prepare reports and summaries for funders, partners, and organizational planning purposes
Administrative Support
● Assist with general coordination tasks such as scheduling meetings, organizing documents, and preparing materials for events and programs
● Grant-funded project implementation and community impact measurement
● Professional communication, facilitation, and leadership development
As an intern, you will receive learning and development opportunities which will include mentorship and supervision from the Executive Director as you gain experience in:
● Community development and engagement strategies
● Nonprofit program coordination and administration
● Partnership development and stakeholder engagement
● Inclusive and trauma-informed service delivery
● Program evaluation and reporting
This internship provides valuable experience for individuals pursuing careers in community development, nonprofit leadership, social services, communications, or public administration.
What you bring to the table
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about community connection and eager to learn. You don’t need to meet every asset listed below to apply—we encourage candidates with a range of experiences and backgrounds to apply.
● A post-secondary diploma or degree in community development, social sciences, communications, nonprofit management, or a related field (or equivalent lived, volunteer, or professional experience)
● Strong communication and people skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with community members, volunteers, and partners
● An interest in community development, social inclusion, and creating positive change
● The ability to stay organized, manage priorities, and work both independently and as part of a team
● Experience volunteering, participating in, or working with community organizations is an asset
● Experience helping to coordinate events, programs, or community initiatives is an asset
● Knowledge of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and a commitment to inclusive and respectful practices
● Comfort using social media and other communication tools to connect with the community
● A willingness to learn, take initiative, and contribute ideas in a collaborative environment
Eligibility
To be eligible for this position, the successful applicant must meet the funding requirement of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) People & Talent Program. Applicants who do not meet these requirements will not be considered for this position. The requirements include:
● Be new to the Canadian workforce, transitioning to a new career, or
unemployed/underemployed
● Be legally eligible to work in Canada
● Not have previously participated in the NOHFC internship program under the 2020 mandate
● Must be at least 18 years of age and must reside in Northern Ontario
Final hiring is subject to NOHFC candidate approval.
Workplace Environment
This position will be based in North Bay with in-person supervision and mentorship. Occasional travel within the region may be required to support community events or outreach activities.
